Frequently Asked Questions

How does counselling / therapy work?
Approaching a counsellor for the first time can be a daunting and fearful process but it is a step by step process. The first step is actually acknowledging that counselling/therapy may be a way forward followed by finding and contacting a counsellor/therapist.

Contact me and I will chat to you on the phone to find out a little about why you want to see a therapist and give you the chance to discover more about what I offer. The next step would be for us to meet for an initial assessment in which I will ask you more about your background and what your aims are from counselling/therapy. Then if we both believe that we can work together and you wish to continue we will negotiate how and when to do this. We will meet weekly for 50 minutes at a regular time and day. I commit to hold that time for you when I am available, usually at least 40 weeks a year, unless unforeseen circumstances arise.

Sessions can be arranged on a short-term time-limited basis, if appropriate, to address a specific issue. Alternatively, a longer term open-ended approach for deeper work in the context of your whole being, can be arranged.

What type of counselling / therapy do I do?
I use an Integrative approach which means I have been trained to use various ways of working such as cognitive therapy, creative techniques, working with the body, as well as psychodynamic, humanistic and existential approaches too.

How long will it take?
This is a difficult question to answer because it all depends on what you are searching for. Also it may be technique and resource dependent, too. So the best way to finding an answer is to talk about all these issues and your hopes and fears. Also it is important to trust that you will know what is right for you at a specific moment in time.

What will it cost?
I charge, per session between £60 and £75. Full payment required with less than 48 hours cancellation notice.
